Found only on one remote island off Korea (Cheju Island) which I visited in fall 1997, H. venusta is one of the smallest hosta species. Growing in dense shade in very dry conditions, it much prefers garden sites, where it will make a perfectly formed clump to 10" wide of tiny, green, heart-shaped leaves... great for a special place in the woodland rock garden. In summer, the plants are topped with proportional 12" scapes of medium lavender flowers.
