For decades we have longed to find a nerine that would thrive for us, and after nearly exhausting the genus, we stumbled on a shocking success with Nerine angustifolia. This African endemic hails from Lesotho, Swaziland, and the South Africa regions of Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Transvaal, and the Cape Province. In the garden, it has absolutely thrived for us in the driest berms on our property, despite being native in acid grassland marshes. Forming a hefty clump, the threadlike, winter-deciduous foliage gives rise, starting in mid-September to 18" stalks, each ending in clusters of medium pink flower, that look like a frilly lycoris. For us the bloom season starts as the lycoris bloom season comes to an end.
